Not only could you see this, but I know it must have been audible across the Fulltiltpoker table. One reverse tell, I will remember for a long time, was years ago in a 5-10 Hold'em game, I had pocket 9s in middle position and it had been checked to me. I raised and got 3 callers. The flop came 939 with 2 suits. I got that nice warm feeling, and then got the brainstorm to use a reverse tell, I blatantly shook my head, made an audible moan and checked. It didn't work too well.
The discipline that is useful in these games is your "patience factor." Are you able to sit through long periods of bad Fulltiltpoker cards without getting bored and falling back to the "Hell, he's winning with any two cards, why can't I?" excuse. Once you know your patience factor you must develop the discipline to maintain it.
I reach into my pocket and cannot find any Rosary beads to use. I search my carry-on for a bible, no luck. I thought better of my next thought, which was to stand up and start yelling for a priest to give me the last rites. It seems that the landing gear would not fully retract. Not a big problem until you land, especially if they will also not fully deploy.
Sounds nuts? I think he called with a pair of sixes. At any rate this works best (as with most strategies of this nature) against poor Fulltiltpoker players. Against poor players if you try this trick and it works, you can use it again with almost 100% reliability the next time you bluff the same player!
If on the other hand I think there is a chance that I do not have the best hand I will then check. As was said earlier you check your checking Fulltiltpoker hands and bet your betting hands, and you play your bluffing hands, it doesn't get much simpler than that.
With this information firmly implanted in my mind, I would set my game plan to intercept the animal, just when it thought it was safe, was at ease, and had let its guard down. I was aggressive in seeing that I carried out my plans to the letter. If I failed, it would be a stroke of bad luck, but not lack of planning on my part. Luck was something that I had no control over.
If you're in a game where you have an advantage over your competition, your objective should be to get as many Fulltiltpoker hands in as possible. Unless the deck is damaged in some way, setups just slow things down. If you don't have an advantage over the table, you should leave the game. On the other hand, changing the deck does matter if one thinks it does.
At low limits, varying your play is almost pointless, since it is rarely noted, and even if it was, it wouldn't make much of a difference due to the texture of the typical low limit Fulltiltpoker game. At middle and high limits, there might be some value to 'false advertising,' but even then it depends on the length of time one spends at the table and the turnover of players.
